Attaching the Shift Boot Retaining Ring
Attaching the shifter boot retaining ring is an installer responsibility, so depending on the installer, different methods are employed. Common on many cars is the use of stainless steel wood screws that simply screw into the fiberglass tunnel. The problem with this method is that, over time, the screws holes become stripped out. A more secure method is to use metal clip nuts that are redily available at many retailers. Part number 94850A120 mcmaster.com is what I use, shown in the photo below.
