Left is a Ford OEM stub with proper snap ring.  Rights is the aftermarket stub which employed a wire style snap ring that hung out of the grove, not allowing the stub to release from the differential.  The fractured ends are the result of the axle spline cutting the snap ring off during removal.  The missing part of the snap ring remained inside the differential, requiring complete disassembly
